Renewing An Indian Passport Online

The advent of the internet has led to government agencies finally switching many processes online. One such painful process is Passport Renewal.

So as Everyone’s Personal Assistant we thought why not simplify your life – minus the clutter & with this blog post guide you through how your Passport can be renewed in a few simple steps. I’ll start by giving you links to a few basic useful resources and go on to give you a detailed step by step process on the method.

Normal and Tatkaal Applications

There are two types of application- Normal and Tatkaal. If you choose the normal method, it will take 3 to 4 weeks after your appointment till you receive your passport. If you choose Tatkaal, you can expect your passport within 10 days after your appointment. The Tatkaal service charges an additional fee for faster processing.

Step by Step Approach of Passport Renewal:

Step 1: The first thing you require to do is register an account with Passport Seva using the following link:  https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/user/RegistrationBaseAction?request_locale=en

Step 2: After registering an account you have to login and click on the “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” link

Step 3: You have to now fill a form which you can do either do offline by downloading the soft copy, filing it and uploading it or filling it online.

Step 4:  After filling the form, you have to click on “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen. Online Payments are mandatory for online applications which you can make by credit/debit card or internet banking (SBI and Associate Banks only) or SBI bank Challan.

Step 5: Click on the “Print Application Receipt” link and print it. Make sure it contains the Application Reference Number (ANR) or Appointment Number

Step 6: On the day of your appointment, visit the Passport Seva Kendra/ Regional Passport Office (RPO) where the appointment has been made along with your original documents needed.

Step 7: After the application process is complete, a police verification occurs where a police inspector comes to your house to verify your address. They usually call you before they come but if 8-10 days have passed since you appointment and no police inspector has come to your house, we suggest you visit the closest police station.
