Did you know that the Indian Railways have a provision via which you can transfer your confirmed railway ticket within your family up to 24 hours before your scheduled departure?
A natively Indian trait we make our travel plans & book our tickets months in advance, especially if we want to travel by train just to make sure we have a confirmed reservation. But, a lot of times by the time we are schedule to travel, plans might change due to numerous reasons! In this weeks help series we tell you how you could exercise this option and transfer your ticket within your family, if they would like to travel instead.
How does it work?
The process to get the ticket transferred is fairly simple –
- You need to approach the nearest Railway Reservation Office with the ‘Electronic Reservation Slip’ print out and photo identity proof in original of one of the passenger travelling in the ticket at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure
- Also you need to carry proof that the passenger (to whom the ticket needs to be transferred to) is a family member
There are few more additional provisions to get tickets transferred as well, which are listed below –
- If the passengers are students of a recognized educational institution and the Head of the institution makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, that the reservation made in the name of any student be transferred to any other student of the same institute.
- If the passengers are members of a marriage party and any person deemed to be Head of such party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any other person.
Do Note – Under these 2 provisions if the change is in excess of 10% of the total group, the transfer shall be declined.
